De Martino Carmenere 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The Legado line of wines from De Martino showcase a specific varietal and their cultivation in the best terroirs of Chile resulting in wines that express the true character of each region. De Martino was the first winery in Chile to bottle Carmenère as a single varietal. Hand-harvested in mid-May, the bunches underwent a 4-7-day cold-soak in stainless steel tanks at 8-10°C. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks as well over a span of 9 days at 26-28°C, followed by a 28-day maceration with periodic pump-overs and aeration. Full malolactic fermentation occurred. Aged for 12 months in French oak barriques of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th use. The wine was filtered and refrigerated prior to bottling and finally cellared for a year prior to release.

San Martiño Winery & Vineyards opened its doors in the spring of 2004. We are a small family-owned winery specializing in handcrafted wines using modern techniques but with a traditional “soul” borne in the fertile lands of northwestern Spain. The village of San Martiño, (see picture below), located in the mountains of the Galician region, has been making traditional wines for hundreds of years. It was at the village of San Martiño that our love and knowledge of wine and wine making techniques started. Through years of watching and helping our family in the vineyard we came to appreciate the special relationship between people, their land and the food they grow. Our Texas winery was created by borrowing from the traditions of the San Martiño village and its people, the tenacity and resolution of our family and learned modern wine-making techniques. Our heritage is rich and although we are not Texas largest winery, we aim to be the best!. Here you can watch us grow and participate with us as we travel together in this adventure because we know that without you we are not. So come by and visit with us while relaxing with a glass or bottle of one of our wines. Bring a picnic and enjoy a break from the rat race. Read less

Weingut: De Martino / Santa InesLand: ChileRegion: Maipo ValleyRebsorten: 85% Carmenere, 15% Cabernet SauvignonAlkoholgehalt: 13,5 Vol. %Restsüße: trockenInhalt: 0,75 lEmpfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16 - 18°CLagerfähigkeit: 3 - 5 Jahre ab Jahrgang Auszeichnungen des De Martino Santa Ines Carmenere 2007:IWSC Trophy - 2009 Rotwein > Chile > Maipo Valley

Tasting Notes:

The nose is fresh and intense with notes of black pepper and plum, which are balanced by sweet aromas of vanilla. A pleasant acidity fills the palate, with well-structured tannins. The finish is long, with red fruit flavors and hints of vanilla.
