De Martino Carignan Single Vineyard El Leon Chile Maule 2007
El León, an exemplary terroir wine, is a limited production blend from one of the most unique vineyard sites in Chile. A manual harvest is conducted in the last week of April. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tank, followed by aging in French oak barrels for 14 months.
A bench mark producer of an outstanding array of wines from an equally outstanding list of terroir. The El Leon is a superb example of Carignan in Chile. This vines are well over 60 years old and producing great juice. This is a dense wine, and really requires a meal to be thoroughly enjoyed. A slight bell pepper taste can turn some people off to this wine, but it is a characteristic of the grape and to be confused with under ripeness.
Dense purple color with short pink rim, nose reticent today but notes of red cherry. Very dense with high tannin, high alcohol, some very ripe mulberry notes and hints of vanilla. Big and powerful with very sweet ripe fruit and incredible intensity, has potential to age, really delicious.
