De Loach Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The first wine bottled and sold direct from De Loach was the 1975 Zinfandel from the Barbieri Ranch. The winery and vineyards were originally owned and run by the De Loach family, with Cecil De Loach as winemaker. In 2003, the family-run Burgundian estate J-C Boisset bought De Loach and has since returned the estate to its original high quality winemaking philosophy. The focus is now firmly on small-lot winemaking, with particular emphasis on Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley. This Pinot from Russian River is bright ruby in colour with aromas of ripe raspberries, strawberry and rhubarb tart. Delicate notes of anise, cardamom and gingerbread spice lace the fruit unfolding a rich palate of black cherries supported by medium-fine-grained tannins. The finish lingers with attractive, subtle, toasty undertones, fine acid and excellentbalance.

The cool, foggy Russian River Valley climate allows for slow ripening, enabling grapes to develop full flavor maturation over an extended time. The fruit for our 2007 blend was hand-harvested from select vineyards around the valley and crafted using traditional Burgundian techniques: fermentation in small, wooden, open-top vats; hand punch-downs; basket-pressing; and French oak barrel aging. Ripe raspberries lift from the glass and mingle with tempting aromas of strawberry-rhubarb tart and cola. Delicate notes of anise, cardamom and gingerbread spice lace the fruit to unfold a rich palate of black cherries supported by medium-fine-grained tannins. The finish lingers with attractive, subtle, toasty undertones, fine acid and excellent balance. Pairs beautifully with barbecued leg of lamb or braised pork tenderloin.

The prettiest of De Loach's new Pinots, and also the most accessible. It's dry and silky, with rich, pure flavors of cherry pie filling, mocha, cola, cinnamon spice and sweet, buttery oak. Really delicious. Now-2012. - S.H. Wine Enthusiast. A Pinot Noir wine from California in USA. 2007 De Loach Pinot Noir Green Valley 750ml

A very fresh and very pinot nose carries a whiff of crushed leaf over to the delicious vibrant and detailed middle weight flavors that possess a supple and rounded mouth feel and enough length to be interesting. The style is quite transparent and while the alcohol is by no means high it s high enough for the finish to have a trace of warmth so be sure to keep it cool. I like this though it needs more overall complexity to play at the next level. Burghound.
