De Loach Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2013

External Review by WineExpress.com:

De Loach Vineyards gained a reputation through the last three decades for producing first class Pinots from their winery in the Russian River Valley. Today, someone who knows a thing or two about Pinot Noir, dynamic Burgundy producer Jean-Charles Boisset leads the charge, having purchased the estate in 2003. Since then has upgraded throughout the estate and even replanted many of the vineyards. This is a signature wine for the estate. Fruit was selected from prime vineyards in the Russian River Valley, all hand-harvested. The wine is crafted using traditional Burgundian techniques. The grapes were hand-sorted then fermented in small vats with all punch-downs done by hand. It was aged for 11 months in 60 gallon French oak barrels, 16% new, to create a complex, multi-layered Pinot Noir. Wine & Spirits Magazine named this a "Best Buy" scoring it 93 points and saying "For his 2013 appellation wine, winemaker Brian Maloney selected fruit from four vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley, including Heintz at the cool western edge of Green Valley and Becnel in the warmer hills along Westside Road. His gentle treatment of the fruit and use of mostly older barrels allows quiet, savory aromas of forest mushrooms and sandalwood to lead the way. The flavors slowly build toward a pure, rosy, red-fruited glow that's mouthwatering and gentle, yet utterly persuasive. The wine also happens to be a steal - and it would be delicious with sauteed mushrooms."
