De Lisio Shiraz Mclaren Vale 2006
Wonderful, powerful, toffee in a glass. Long length. I literally travelled the planet to buy this wine (tried to buy in London, acquired in California, shipped home via New York). Worth it. Always the last bottle of the evening - nothing afterwards will stand up to it.Add winemaker's notes

The 2005 Shiraz Krystina (named after Tony De Lisio?s wife) is a 100% Shiraz from relatively young vines planted on one of the limestone and slate sectors of McLaren Vale. Seventy percent new French oak was utilized, and the wine, which was going to bottled unfiltered about one month after I tasted it, exhibits a sweet nose of blackberries, raspberries, smoke, camphor, and graphite. Full-bodied, rich, and intense with sweet but noticeable tannin, a firm structure, and an accessible style, it should age for 12-15 years.
Fashioned from relatively young vines planted in limestone/slate soils at one of McLaren Vale's highest elevations, the 2004 Shiraz Krystina (100% Shiraz) was aged in primarily French oak (50% new). This riveting effort exhibits a dense ruby/purple color along with a sweet, pure nose of cassis, black raspberries, crushed rocks, and smoky oak, impressive structure, a tremendous, multi-layered texture, and considerable stature, intensity, and length. It should drink well for a decade or more.
Deep violet. Powerful aromas of cherry, candied licorice, smoked meat and bitter chocolate. Concentrated cherry preserve and chocolate flavors show very good focus and are supported by a serious tannic structure. Finishes with notes of dried cherry a... Stephen Tanzer.
