De Lancellotti Vineyard Pinot Noir 2007
A great achievement for us in that it could easily be confused for a young Baroloor even a Burgundy from the Cote-de-Nuits, but even better thanthat..its from Oregon! The almost electric violet-ruby colored wine has excellentaromas of marionberry and wild blackberries with some baking spiceslike cinnamon, vanilla, clove, nutmeg and incense. The attack is pure anddriven, with bright fruit flavors and great lithe texture which is focused andmineral-based. The finish has a long juicy acid structure with fine grainedtannins. This wine will be amazing after 2-3 years of ageing and will drinkwell into 2020+ if cellared carefully. This wine is farmed and certified biodynamic.
Strong nose opens to intense aromas of sour fruit, bitter currant, blackberry, blueberry, and notes of coffee, licorice, cloves, cinnamon, dark caramel and burnt brown sugar. A myriad of scents weave through the changing array, including whiffs of burnt hair, fresh perm, sulfur, sour leaves, moldy clay, violets, and lantana. Palate is acidic and sour on the attack, followed after opening for 15 minutes by impressions of alfalfa, lily pads, moss, wood bark, burnt brown sugar and caramel. Fruits are currant, blackberry, black cherry, plum and cranberry. Over time, cranberry dominates array of fruit tastes. Undertones of sour, bitter and earthy flavors appear throughout.
External Reviews for De Lancellotti Vineyard Pinot Noir
De Lancellotti was the founder of the Bergström winery. This Pinot Noir comes from a mere six-acre plot of land with sedimentary soils of old ocean beaches. This is a rich red wine, with aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, nutmeg, berries, and game. Powerful, silken in texture, and just brilliant on the palate. Aged in large oak casks, none of which were new.
