De Conciliis Aglianico Donna Luna 2007

Member Review by dynowine:

Someone at this tasting said "Aglianico is the Barolo of the south". In the mouth this wine started off with a sour bite and was also rich and chewy berry-cherry fruit with notes of compost and leather. Slightly drying tannins. Wood in the finish. Dry. Body medium plus, tannin medium plus, acid medium plus. Nice. Seems like a good wine for strong food.

I was unfamiliar with this varietal and was told in many cases it's a highly tannic wine if not made by a talented vintner. I found the nose to be shiraz-like with bright berries, cocoa, violets and some cola. A medium bodied wine with well structured tannin "texture" it takes on an interesting aromatic feel on the palate with the strawberry, cassis, cocoa and florals mixed with a hint of pepper and black cherry. Interesting and enjoyable. A clean finish with strawberry, cocao and flowers lingering. - Tasted at Marché Bacchus 1/30/10
