De Angelis Lacrima Christi del Vesuvio 2008

Member Review by Tyler Worth:

90 points. On the nose there’s tons of complexity. I could have smelled this wine blindfolded and been able to tell you it was a Falanghina blend. That explosion of fruit, flowers, and minerals that I’ve come to love from this varietal did not disappoint. There is this very subtle, refined lemon zest and limestone component on the nose, mixed in with citrus flowers, sea stone, juniper, and white pepper. I pick up on some citrus leaves, sea shells, and the very faintest touch of rosewater as well. The flavor was just as impressive. It opens with white peach drizzled with cinnamon spiced honey, a kiss of limestone, and a blend of tropical fruit. It just explodes with crushed sea shell and sea stone, while blossoming with exotic tropical flower and orchid aromas. I get the faintest taste of graham cracker, with lemon pulp, flint, and very ripe gooseberries on the finish. This is a very nice wine. It’s got great acidity and the minerality matches up with it flawlessly. The fruit is ripe and intense, while remaining in perfect balance, coming across as elegant and refined. This is a great wine for the price, and I think whether you’re new to Campania or you’re already a fan (like me), you’re gonna really like this. Don’t miss this one, it’s a wine worth trying.
