Food Pairings for Davis Bynum Pinot Noir Russian River Valley le Pinot
Editorial Reviews for Davis Bynum Pinot Noir Russian River Valley le Pinot
A little hot on the nose with lots of sweet fruit, cola, a touch of citrus, roast meat and oak. This is a big, powerful style of Pinot with a chewy texture and dark, muscular fruit, there are nice black spice tones to compliment the jammy cherry and sweet blackberry pie toned fruit. Tannic and powerful this follows through on the finish with large, dry wood tannins that overwhelm the palate. 85pts
Smells a bit soapy at first with a very floral character. With air Syrah like black pepper, beef, dried hay, violet and floral tones emerge. Atypical, and a bit raw woody at first then much more typical heavy vanilla and candied cola notes emerge with the candied black cherry fruit. Pretty fresh and pure raspberry in the mouth with lovely tannins, brisk and crisp and pretty well measured against the great backing acidity. Elegant yet rich with citrus and floral tones framing the fruits, and a good dollop of oaken spice emerging on the finish. Somewhere between intense and elegant with an intriguing astringent edge, yet a touch loose and lacking a bit of complexity. 88pts

Enjoyed two tastes of this fine example of RRV Pinot Noir yesterday. Nicely complex in the recent Pinot world of nothingness. Black cherry aroma and a nice lingering finish worthy of the second taste. Also a nice value compared to so many pretenders out there. Sold!
External Reviews for Davis Bynum Pinot Noir Russian River Valley le Pinot
The color and flavor are both dark and rich. Fruits on the palate are strawberries and cherries, but both are dark, very ripe, even a little bruised. Wood provides a sweet background of vanilla and almond. Tannins are sweet and old, acids mild to match.
Davis Bynum has been producing top quality Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley for over 3 decades. They hold claim to producing the very first single vineyard Pinot Noir in the Russian River Valley- a 1973 Rochioli Vineyard. Their experience and contacts allow them to source their grapes from the best vineyards in the Valley and 2007 was a vintage where there was a lot of superb fruit to be had. Aged 11 months in French oak barrels, this supple, rich Pinot was scored 90 points by Wine Spectator who said “Rich and full-bodied, with a pleasurable mix of black cherry, wild berry and mocha flavors that are intense, concentrated, focused and persistent, ending with a long, persistent finish.” Limited.
Wine Tasting NotesYouthful and vibrant, with a classic pinot noir nose of bright cherry and a touch of earthiness. Look for flavors of rhubarb, smoke, and caramel to add complexity. Polished tannins and good acidity create a nice balance and structure. This pinot is very food friendly. We find it is particularly appealing with pork, tuna, and mushrooms. Drinkable now. Best from 2007 through 2012.

This is a very unique and rare wine. Davis Bynum has been producing exceptional Pinot Noirs, both single vineyard and blends from the Russian River Valley since 1973 when they sourced from the famed Rochioli vineyard. Today, more than thirty years later, the tradition continues with beautiful hand crafted Pinot Noir from the valley's best vineyards. This wine is a blend of grapes from two vineyards; 58% Lindley’s Knoll which is a hillside vineyard and 42% Moshin vineyard which lies on the benchland. The grapes were vinified separately and blended into a silky, fruit laden wine with extraordinary finesse and style. Now with two years of bottle age it has softened and evolved into something complex and wonderful. Only 314 cases were produced so needless to say it is VERY LIMITED. Grab it!
