David Bruce Petite Sirah Santa Cruz Mountains 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes Stretching in a narrow band from Santa Barbara to the San Francisco Bay, the Central Coast region is characterized by the cooling influences of the Pacific Ocean. These grapes come from several vineyards in Paso Robles and southern Monterey. The resulting components display notable differences, some exuding bright,spice-tinged fruit while others are jammy, earthy and dense. The blend in many ways exceeds the sum of these parts, offering blackberry, blueberry and white pepper aromas, with a supple and balanced feel coming from our gentle handling of the fruit. Limiting the influence of new oak allows the fruit to shine through, making this wine versatile with foods, and ready to drink now.

Dark color but with a light flavor. Very thick velvety tannins with a lot of dryness. Overall very well balanced.

Light fruits, cloves, with a hint of lavender. Thought it to be rather weak.

Dark color, jammy, and well balanced. It is rich, but not bold or strong. Overall, great with food or without. A lot of fruit on the nose and the start.

Not only does David Bruce produce stellar Pinot Noirs; he also makes a handful of other great reds in the Central Coast area of California. This Petite Sirah has just about everything you could want in a fruit-forward red wine. It's full of deep, dark berry flavors, rich body, and soft tannins.

Notes of jammy and spiced fruit, and aromas of blackberry, blueberry and white pepper.

Marked by well-focused, stewed plum and beefy cherry and wild berry fruit, it's notably smooth for a young Petite. Firms up on the finish, where the tannins show a grittier, earthier side. An excellent value. Drink now through 2008.

Good things are happening at David Bruce winery and as they say, "the proof is in the pudding" or in this case, the Petite Syrah. Balance and flavor are the main components I look for in a wine and this baby struts its stuff! The color is deep and inky encircled with a violet aura. Aromatics are perfumed, reminiscent of loganberry and spice - in the mouth the fruit is ripe and jammy, enhanced with sharp focused flavors that are endowed with considerable weight and tannin. This wine is a major leaguer and would easily make the all-star team.

Opaque purple. Moderately full-bodied. Highly extracted. Quite tannic. Black cherries, vanilla. Rich, peppery, explosively fruity aromas follow through to a thick, flavorsome palate with a textured mouthfeel and relatively supple finish, despite the impressive tannins levels.
