The history of David Arthur Vineyards and the Long Family in the Napa Valley reaches back a half-century to the 1950s. At that time, Donald Long began steadily investing in land on Pritchard Hill. He owned a small grocery business in Menlo Park, and had long been interested in and drawn to the California wine industry. His vision and commitment to build a legacy and business for his family led to the acquisition of nearly 1,000 acres. Nearly two decades later, in the late 1970s, that vision came to fruition when his son David began planting vines on the property. Today, two generations work together to continue the family tradition at David Arthur Vineyards. The Land The winery and estate vineyards of David Arthur are situated high above the northeastern end of the Napa Valley, on Pritchard Hill. At elevations between 1,000-1,200 feet, Pritchard Hill boasts rocky volcanic soils, and a unique microclimate of very warm days and cool nights. The rough terrain stresses the vines, limiting grape production to tiny berries that may be small in stature, but provide immense, concentrated flavors in the wines. David Arthur’s location and use of estate grown fruit is integral to the full-bodied, complex wines associated with the label. The Evolution David Long began as a Chardonnay grape grower and his initial crops were sold to other vineyards in the Napa Valley. Grape growing evolved into winemaking with the first David Arthur vintage in 1985. Eventually, in the early 1990s, Chardonnay vines were grafted over to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Sangiovese. David Arthur has been committed to producing estate grown red varietals ever since. While red wines have become the focus of the David Arthur winegrowing program, a small bottling of Chardonnay is still produced in homage to the early years of the winery. Additionally, a small Sauvignon Blanc program was added three years ago. The Wines & Philosophy The David Arthur wines are produced with a dedication to crafting dynamic, complex vintages. With every bottling comes a commitment to producing distinctive wines with a focus on vineyard site-expression and structure, a benchmark of David Arthur Vineyards’ winemaking philosophy. In 2008, Nile Zacherle joined David Arthur Vineyards as winemaker. “Nile is the ideal complement to our team at David Arthur,” says David Long, cofounder of David Arthur Vineyards. “His passion for excellence and crafting wines of quality and structure coincides with our philosophy and vision.” Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Young and rambunctious, intense and concentrated, with a mix of wild berry, currant, smoke, roasted meat, charred oak and ripe currant fruit, supported by firm tannins. Finishes with lead pencil and fresh earth nuances. Needs time... Wine Spectator. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2000 David Arthur Cabernet Sauvignon Elevation 1147 1500ml
