D'Arenberg the High Trelliscabernet Sauvignon 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

On the palate mouth filling sweet blackberries plums and blackcurrant flavours are highlighted by the rich strong mid palate which is finely structured with firm fruit and oak tannin on the typically long fresh young tangy finish.Typical cassis and blackcurrant aromas are also evident. A little smoky vanillin oak and cinnamon smells help to give the wine great complexity and longevity.

d’Arenberg has developed an enviable reputation with their range of idiosyncratic wines. From the Stump Jumps through to the highly regarded Icons, these wines offer value, individuality and a true taste of McLaren Vale. The Icons The Ironstone Pressings, The Coppermine Road, The Dead Arm Shiraz The Icons are the most powerful and concentrated of d’Arenberg’s wines. Comprising of the Dead Arm, the Coppermine Road and the Ironstone Pressings, this range represents the pinnacle of d’Arenberg’s efforts. Century old, low-yielding vines produce intensely flavored fruit which is traditionally vinified and undergoes rigorous barrel-selection prior to classification. Chester's Champions The Lucky Lizard, The Twentyeight Road, The Last Ditch, The Money Spider, The Feral Fox, The Sticks & Stones, The Derelict Vineyard, The Cadenzia, The Galvo Garage, The Laughing Magpie Since the early 1900’s, d’Arenberg has pioneered innovative wine styles and varietal plantings. The Classic Red Stripes The Dry Dam, The Broken Fishplate, The Olive Grove, The Hermit Crab, The Custodian, The High Trellis, d’Arrys Original, The Love Grass, The Footbolt. The Classic Red Stripes represent the backbone of the d’Arenberg range. Nose: blackberry, violet/floral, spice, hay, smoky, blackcurrant, red fruit some jammyness, cedary oak, rich. Palate: blackberry, blackcurrant, spice, cedary oak. Rich, intense, with dark, smoky notes. Firm, drying tannins. Acid still fresh. Complex.

Nice fruity start but a bit of a sour finish.

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 90+The 2006 The High Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon includes 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot in the blend. The nose offers up cassis and violets along with pepper and earth notes. On the palate, black fruits dominate the nicely concentrated flavors. There is enough structure for 2-3 years of additional bottle age. It will be at its best from 2010 to 2017.
