Opening a bit stewy with strong black pepper overtones, this settles down offering great spice tones with light smoke and floral notes over a gentle and appealing bit of cow patty. A big, rich mouthful of wine that is chewy and layered with plum and prune tones that have a gamy edge. Adds notes of dried orchard fruits and freshens up in the glass adding a bit of florality and becoming more boysenberried. Very well balanced with solid length this is both interesting and enjoyable. 91pts

Add your reviewTried this red from downunder at a blind tasting at snooth conducted by Greg Dal Piaz, and this was one of my favorites out of the 12 sampled. At first on the nose I got high alcohol and vanilla, but ultimately opened to a kind of sweet, fruit bomb, with blueberries on the side. Refreshing and jammy with hints of lavender, a suggestion of fruit rind, white pepper and a smokey undercurrent.
Big and brawny. Not my style, but there is some elegance here. Plum and jam on the nose with a spicy palate. Finish is very short which is good for a wine of this size. Everyone else in the crowd seemed to like it.
Oak and leather. Great to drink on its own or with food- meats and heavier cheeses.

Wine Tasting NotesThe palate is juicy with weighty, red-fruited Shiraz dominated by plums, rhubarb, cherries, strawberries, mulberry, smoked bacon, white pepper and flower characters then a level of black currants and fragrant spice from the Cabernet and Petit Verdot appear. On the second sip a lovely mulberry tar-like character of Merlot starts to fill the palate with vivid, deep-red cherry flavors mixed with a hint of sage leaf, cloves and turmeric from the Petit Verdot which fans out across the finish with a grippy but polished finish.

Plum and cherry fruits are evident on the juicy palate, with lifted violets, cloves, and smoked bacon for complexity. The wine finishes with mulberry tar-like characters and firm, gritty tannins fanning out across the back palate.
