d’Arenberg has developed an enviable reputation with their range of idiosyncratic wines. From the Stump Jumps through to the highly regarded Icons, these wines offer value, individuality and a true taste of McLaren Vale. The Icons The Ironstone Pressings, The Coppermine Road, The Dead Arm Shiraz The Icons are the most powerful and concentrated of d’Arenberg’s wines. Comprising of the Dead Arm, the Coppermine Road and the Ironstone Pressings, this range represents the pinnacle of d’Arenberg’s efforts. Century old, low-yielding vines produce intensely flavored fruit which is traditionally vinified and undergoes rigorous barrel-selection prior to classification. Deep garnet-purple colored the 2009 The Fruit Bat Shiraz has intense notes of warm plums mulberries dark chocolate and game plus a hint of baking spices and a whiff of prunes. Full bodied with a medium to firm level of chewy tannins it has very good fruit concentration in the mid-palate and a long finish with the spice notes pleasantly seasoning the dried fruits. Drink it 2013 to 2022+. 91+ Points. --Lisa Perotti-Brown Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Shallow grey loam planted 1999. Got a bit of lift and also a floral edge marzipan dark fruit and dark chocolate. Chewy dry tannin ferrous rough and rugged - though a little below full bodied. Lots of presence and furry tannin to close. Don t spare the horses! Some gritty tannin and dark bitter chocolate on the finish and a touch of warmth. No lack of character. --Gary Walsh Wine Front.

Almost impenetrable colour; the bouquet exhibits a host of sweet black fruits almost essency in character; the palate is loaded with sweet fruit with a swag of tannin bringing up the rear and providing a chewy and dense finish. James Halliday.
