Deep garnet-purple colored the 2009 The Fruit Bat Shiraz has intense notes of warm plums mulberries dark chocolate and game plus a hint of baking spices and a whiff of prunes. Full bodied with a medium to firm level of chewy tannins it has very good fruit concentration in the mid-palate and a long finish with the spice notes pleasantly seasoning the dried fruits. Shallow grey loam planted 1999. Got a bit of lift and also a floral edge marzipan dark fruit and dark chocolate. Chewy dry tannin ferrous rough and rugged - though a little below full bodied. Lots of presence and furry tannin to close. Don t spare the horses! Some gritty tannin and dark bitter chocolate on the finish and a touch of warmth. No lack of character. --Gary Walsh Wine Front.
