Amazing purple color. Awesome bouquet of flowers and cherry. Full mouthfeel with cherry, blackberry. Nice soft tannins with good structure. Lacks a bit on the finish 90+
Beautiful acidity, but not bracing at all. Blueberry, spice, cassis on the palate - stone fruits and floral aromas on the nose. I picked this up for $16.99 in Indiana. What a great deal!
superb value at $19 at costco. Big, fun, tasty, though still needs some time
[Metro Cafe] Blueberry on the nose and overwhelming on the palate accompanied by apricot and tannins on teh finish. Shiraz/Viogner blends are typically not my thing but a very nice wine nevertheless.
Marvelous wine, but from a less than stellar vintage. The 2003 and 2004 are much more to my taste. I have yet to drink a d'Arenberg I did not like.
External Reviews for D'Arenberg Shiraz Blend Mclaren Vale the Laughing Magpie Shiraz-Viognier
The 2008 Laughing Magpie Shiraz-Viognier spent 12 months in 15 percent new French and American oak. It is deep crimson-colored with an alluring bouquet of cedar, lilacs, Asian spices, black cherry, and blueberry. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and layered with savory fruit. Nicely balanced, it will evolve for 2-3 years and drink well through 2020.
Good colour; highly perfumed bouquet, with an abundance of black fruits, savoury charcuterie, and a suggestion of violets; the palate is seamless and beautifully poised, with the acidity providing contrast to the lavish levels of fruit; a well constr... Weingut: d'ArenbergLand: AustralienRegion: McLaren ValeRebsorte: Shiraz 94%, Viognier 6%Inhalt: 1,5 lAlkoholgehalt: 14,5 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 6,7 g/lRestsüße: 0,8 g/lAuszeichnungen:Mundus Vini Silber Rotwein > Australien > McLaren Vale

A Proprietary Blend wine from South Australia in Australia. 2006 Arenberg, D The Laughing Magpie Shiraz / Viognier 750ml
Wine Advocate ReviewThe 2006 The Laughing Magpie is composed of 94% Shiraz and 6% Viognier. Deep crimson/violet in color, it offers up notes of cherry, ginger, black tea, tar, and blueberry. Medium to full-bodied, layered flavors of cherry, blueberry, and dark chocolate make an appearance accompanied by ripe tannin and excellent concentration leading to a long, refined finish. It will benefit from 3-4 years of cellaring and drink well through 2020.

Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 2003 dArenberg The Laughing Magpie Shiraz / Viognier 750ml
The nose is beautiful with primary, dark fruits and a lifted, flowery cool-mint style note. With time in the glass the more savoury characters of spice and cooked meat begin to appear. The palate is robust and concentrated with great intensity. The fruit is more expressive on the palate with a touch of raspberry, plum, blackcurrant and blueberry with strong underlying spice. The fragrant mineral silky tannins build nicely on the palate and provide great structure and very impressive length. This wine will benefit from bottle age and if cellared correctly will drink well over the next 15 years.
