D'Arenberg Grenache Mclaren Vale the Derelict Vineyard 2010

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Ironstone is a rusty colored laterite granite stone with a high iron content which can be found in vineyards. The higher iron content adds a wonderful mineral freshness to this deep-colored wine. On the nose we have a few violet notes as well as blackberry, raspberry and a little allspice. A complex and layered wine, with fine-grained chalky and mineral tannins and ripe sweet red and black berries which are balanced by provincial herbs.

Nicely balanced GSM with loads of dark fruit, spice, tar and a nice long finish. Excellent wine for the price. The big jaminess of the shiraz is nicely held in check by the grenache and mourvedre. Would definitely purchase this again.

Ripe with deliciously full sweet fruit up front, very aussie. Juicy finish with a grand tannic splurge . Those tannins are quite gravelly texture wise adding much interest to those juicy black fruit flavours

I was lured in to buying this wine as the label stated it was on the Wine Spectator's best value list for 2010. They also rated it at 90pts. I liked the strong aroma of red berries - initial taste was pleasant - plum, berries with a slight trace of oak that lingers for awhile.

I could smell this wine all day. Tasted great, but the nose was what it was all about! Unfortunately I couldnt get drunk from smelling it, so I had to finish the bottle.

The Stump Jump GSM 2008 - d'Arenberg : The Stump Jump GSM 2008 - Rotwein von d'ArenbergThe Stump Jump - Blocksprung. Weingut: d'ArenbergLand: AustralienRegion: McLaren ValeRebsorte: 50% Grenache, 29% Shiraz, 21% MourvedreInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 14,0 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 6,75 g/lRestsüße: 0,75 g/lLagerfähigkeit: 3 - 5 Jahre ab JahrgangFassreife: Ausbau in Stahltanks und Teile in Barriques gereift (6 Monate)Empfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16-18°C Rotwein > Australien > McLaren Vale

International Wine CellarRated 90Deep red. Very fresh aromas of raspberry, cherry and blackberry. Smooth and seamless, with deeply concentrated, nicely focused red fruit flavors, no apparent tannins and slow-mounting sweetness. I suspect that some Old World palates will find this a bit lacking in nuance but I really like its freshness and clarity of fruit.Wine Tasting NotesAs a young wine, the Custodian shows a dark ruby purple hued color and distinctive rich ripe lifted plum, cherry and deep blackcurrant aromas on top of lighter lolly- like violet, musk and raspberry smells, the essences of Grenache. Touches of white pepper, tobacco, cinnamon and spice follow onto the medium to full-bodied juicy palate. The rich plum and sweet blackberry fruit flavors are lifted by gentle vanillin and coffee-mocha oak derived flavors and crunchy fine- grained fruit and oak tannins. After some bottle ageing the color becomes red-brown and the young fruit scented aromas and flavors gradually transform into velvety rich, spicy, strawberry jam, creamy chocolate, earthy and smoky edged aromas. This integration and complexity develops on the palate too, where the young tannin slowly falls away to reveal a seamless, soft sweet rolling middle palate mulberry and prune like fruit with tertiary biscuit, coffee and chewy old leather flavors before a long, soft, dry mouth filling fine acid finish.

This one has extra layers of fruit and spice, offering earth-tinged blackberry, cherry and Asian five spice character at the core, lingering beautifully on the fine-grained finish. Best from 2008 through 2014. 250 cases imported. Wine Spectator. A Grenache wine from South Australia in Australia. 2004 d'Arenberg The Derelict Vineyard 750ml
