Food Pairings for D'Arenberg Cabernet Sauvignon Mclaren Vale the High Trellis
Nose: blackberry, violet/floral, spice, hay, smoky, blackcurrant, red fruit some jammyness, cedary oak, rich. Palate: blackberry, blackcurrant, spice, cedary oak. Rich, intense, with dark, smoky notes. Firm, drying tannins. Acid still fresh. Complex.
Nice fruity start but a bit of a sour finish.
Usually I very much enjoy d'Arenberg wines. They are honestly constructed, and represent the upper echelon of the wonderful McLaren Vale area. The Coppermine Road is however not a wine I always enjoy. My wines are aged in ideal conditions (12-14 degrees C). The 2005 is excellent. The 2002 is almost the reverse. It is acidic and over tannic and flat. I am not sure if this was intended. I have one more bottle available so will compare sometime soon.
Purple. Licquorice, plum. Black cherry, notes, fruit forwards almost has a midpalate. Did not love the finish
Good colors, plenty of action on the aromas, well balanced on the palate with a decent 7 to 8 second finish. Not lust-worthy, but a darn good wine.
External Reviews for D'Arenberg Cabernet Sauvignon Mclaren Vale the High Trellis
Deep ruby. Smoky cherry and redcurrant aromas are complicated by tobacco, cedar and dried rose. Very cabernet, offering cherry and red berry flavors and a good wallop of licorice.
Wine Advocate ReviewRated 90+The 2006 The High Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon includes 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot in the blend. The nose offers up cassis and violets along with pepper and earth notes. On the palate, black fruits dominate the nicely concentrated flavors. There is enough structure for 2-3 years of additional bottle age. It will be at its best from 2010 to 2017.
