Garrigue influence on the nose. Lovely savory sage, white pepper, hints of roasted meat jus, rustic red berry fruit and some tomato leaf and skin. Spicy and peppery on the palate with white pepper, sage, oregano, raspberry, cherry, cola and some currant notes. Dusty grained tannins. Tasty, but at this point in its life, I'd have with a roasted meat, chili or BBQ.

Starting to show its age. In the glass it's brownish red to the rim, some sediment at the bottom. The nose is rich, throwing hints of dark berry, black olive, and dark chocolate. It needed a lot of time to open up, first throwing astringency and bitterness. After it had settled down a bit and opened up, wonderful notes of moist coffee grounds, dark chocolate, pepper, and stewed fruit came through. Gorgeous wine, it just needed some air! 88pts. Tasted Oct. 16, 2012.

Had this wine recently at an upscale steak house, and it was fantastic!

The 2008 Old Vine Zinfandel is comprised of the best selection of these vineyard lots, each adding its own nuance and complexity to the final blend.
