The grapes for Danzante Merlot are sourced from hillside vineyards around Agrigento in South Eastern Sicily, where the terrains are rich in clay and sand while the proximity to the Mediterranean sea guarantees a temperate climate. Vintage: 2008 Grapes: 90% Merlot grapes plus 10% of selected varietals. Region: Province of Agrigento, Sicily Exposure: South and Southwest Soil: Clay & Sand Density: 3,000 to 4,000 vines/Hectare Pruning: Spur pruned cordon Yield: 50HL/Hectare Harvest: First week of September Vinification: Soft pressing of the grapes. Fermentation at 30C in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Fermentation lasted 10 days and maceration for 7 days. Malolactic fermentation took place immediately after alcoholic fermentation. The wine was aged in stainless steel tanks for 10 months with micro-oxygenation. then a further 4 months in bottle prior to release. Serve: At room temperature to accompany roast or grilled red meats, fillet steak, meat pasta dishes and cheese Taste: The wine unfolds in deep, velvety layers of plum, berry and blueberry with hints of spice through to a long and balanced finish.
