Dandelion Wonderland Riesling 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Winemaker, Elena Brooks and her de facto husband, Zar Brooks have put together one of the most impressive lineups of booze in the entire country. The fruit for this wine comes from a 100-year-old Riesling vineyard. Old Vines say you? The bunches for Dandelion’s Riesling are chosen virtually one at a time to ensure perfect ripeness. This wine has the minerality and grip of the Mosel or Rhiengau. SOMMELIER ALERT!!! This wine is dry and we mean wandering in Death Valley, no agua, eating saltines and peanuts kind of dry. Play around with this one for some wine pairings and your guests may be sending out an SOS! Green-tinged straw. Lime and lemongrass on the high-pitched nose and in the mouth. Very dry and slightly lean, with good finishing clarity and persistent white pepper and citrus zest notes.

The Schild name has a long history in the Barossa dating back to 1952 when Ben Schild purchased the Three Springs Farm property in Rowland Flat and settled with his family. Ben transformed the land into a mixed farm with a focus on sustainable viticulture. Ben’s son Ed took over the property at the tender age of 16, after his sudden death in 1956. Through careful management and a keen eye for premium Barossa vineyards Ed has cemented himself as one of the largest independent premium grape growers in the region with over 400 acres under vine. Today second and third generation vigneron’s work side by side to solidify Schild Estate’s reputation, built on its commitment to translating the unique tapestry of its vineyards into wines that speak of honesty and drinkability. Schild Estate’s vineyards include some of the oldest in Australia including the famous Moorooroo vineyard near Jacob’s Creek, which was planted in 1847 by William and John Jacob. Ed’s vineyard site selection has favoured the cooler, southern end of the Barossa near Lyndoch, which enjoys a slower and longer ripening period – perfect for optimum grape flavour development. These generous wines are spearheaded by the iconic Moorooroo Shiraz, demonstrating regional integrity and illustrating Schild Estate’s reputation as Pure Barossa. Read less
