Finally, an affordable Nebbiolo! The legendary grape makes a rare appearance in a wine meant to be drunk young. Decant to soften tannins and allow the famed rose and tea aromas to develop.
Nebbiolo for a song. For consumers accustomed to paying $50 for their Barolo habit, or for those seeking an introductory Nebbiolo, this wine is the real deal! Medium- to full-bodied, ripe berry fruits fill out on the palate with intoxicating aromas of strawberry, blackberry, coffee and plum. Yummy ripeness, but without the wimpy New World finish - firm tannins give the wine a satisfying, chewy finish.
The 2007 Nebbiolo d'Alba is a big, bold wine packed with ripe fruit, sweet spices, licorice and leather. The wine combines elements of super-ripeness, rich texture and classic Nebbiolo structure in a style that is undeniably appealing. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2014.
The 2006 Nebbiolo d'Alba is made from Monforte and Barolo fruit. It sees malolactic fermentation in steel and subsequent aging in French oak. The tannins come across as a little rustic, which is normal for Nebbiolo at this price point. Still, this is a pretty, fruit-driven Nebbiolo to drink over the next few years, preferably at the dinner table, where the wine is likely to offer its greatest pleasure. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2011.
Aromatic with plum and Indian spices. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Delicious already, but better with another year of bottle age. Best after 2008.
