Damilano Liste Barolo 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Heavy on the French oak. Its got long persistent tannins and the typical French oak finish (did anyone say vanilla?) Under this enormously powerful structure is a layer of dark cherry fruit and hint of balsamic. It’s quite the amalgamation of characteristics.

The 2000 Barolo Liste comes from a less renowned vineyard, but is the better of the two in the 2000 vintage, more classic in its nose of roses, tar, and game, its larger dimension and concentration of its flavors, and the greater intensity and impact of its finish. Drink: 2005ndash;2018.

Full, deep red. Superripe aromas of plum, roasted strawberry, cherry liqueur and nut skin. Broad, rich and sweet; fresher in the mouth than on the nose. Fruit-driven flavors of strawberry and menthol. Finishes with big, lush, sweet tannins, a faint dryness, and lingering woodsy and smoky notes.

Very aromatic with roses, pressed flowers and fresh berries. Hints of mushrooms. Full-bodied, with ripe fruit and round tannins. Delicious succulent finish. Soft and traditional style. Pretty. Best after 2007.

Liste (a vineyard cru near Cannubi and Brunate) provides the fruit for this top wine from Damilano. The results are plush and modern and enriched by aromas of coffee, allspice, black licorice, road tar and black fruit. Cherry flavors flood the mouth and are followed by a sensation of tonic freshness. the wine ends with polished, squeaky-clean tannins.

Initial scents of cocoa and dark cherries give way to a higher-toned fruit character. The oak flavors recede with air, giving direct access to the wineandrsquo;s ripe fruit and rich texture. The finish is marked by dried roses, cherries and sticky tannin. Cellar for five years and then enjoy with a savory agnolotti dal plin.

Attractive strawberry and floral aromas follow through to a full body, with firm, silky tannins. Long and solid. This is holding back a lot. Polished and well done. Best after 2010.

Full red. Aromas of redcurrant, smoke, mocha, marzipan and underbrush. Silky, lush and seamless, with fat flavors of red fruits, mocha, menthol and mint. This shows a slight dried fruit character but the texture is seamless for this hot year. Finishes rather suave, with big, horizontal tannins that coat the front teeth.
