Editorial Reviews for Damilano Barolo
AWE blind tasting - more bitter cherry, earthy, slightly brothy, tight rose note, lots of white earth, lovely young balanced nose, a slight root beer bitterness on the nose, camphor - bitter fruit entry is very nice, richly fruited but not fruity, with a nice spice tone, fresh fruits, crisp tannins, very well balanced medium scaled Barolo with lovely fruit and incipient complexity, camphor and spice on the long finish, stern and aggressive but I like this 90-91
AWE blind tasting - beef extract, deep fruit, something weird though, a bit of brett,?, leathery, with some poop, nice balance, nice tannins, crisp yet fine grained, dilute, not much heart here, nice but really very little intensity, 83-84
Excellent! Worth every penny!
a very nice Barolo. Excellent for the price
Faint spice cake on the nose, subtle fruit, long sour cranberry juice finish. A decent but unremarkable bottle. $28 87 points WKH
Pleasant garnet/brick color. Powerful aromas with lots of earthiness combined with dark fruits. Tannins are much softer at this age, providing a nice mouthfeel. Flavors match the aromas, with a nice long finish.
External Reviews for Damilano Barolo
From the Le Cinque Vigne ("five vineyards") rwhich epresents select fruit from the Parcelle Castellero, Monvigliero, Fossati, Bussia and Parussi crus. The combination has produced a lovely wine with full intensity and long-lasting flavors of wild berry, smoke, mineral and cola. It tastes rich and opulent and ends with a fresh dose of acidity that could pair with braised wild duck or pheasant. 90 Points - Wine Spectator: Berry, rose and cinnamon aromas lead to a full body, with a solid core of fruit and silky tannins. Long and refined. Always very good value for Barolo. Best from 2011 through 2015. 8,330 cases made. -JS
A wonderful value in Barolo, this wine has a fragrant and complex nose of rose petals, cherries and mushrooms. Red berries, red licorice and cinnamon-like spice flavors coat the palate; the wine finishes with dusty tannins.
The grapes for Damilano's Barolo come from rented or supervised vineyards in various areas of Barolo country. In 2001, as in most vintages, the quality of this Barolo matches that of the estate's two single-vineyard Barolos, Liste and Cannubi, which come from the family-owned 11 acres of Nebbiolo vines in the Cannubi, Liste and Fossati vineyards, all in the commune of Barolo.
The estate's 2003 Barolo Lecinquevigne, made from a blend of five vineyards, is a soft, medium-weight Barolo that is a good choice for near-term drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2013. Theres plenty of crushed blackberry and flowers on the nose. Full-bodied, showing lots of bright fruit and clean acidity, with a medium finish. Best after 2009. 7,500 cases made. -JS
Exhibits beautiful ripe berry and hints of meat and mushroom. Full-bodied, with round, chewy tannins, but turns slightly hollow on the finish. Best after 2011.
As the name suggests, Damilano's entry-level 2004 Barolo Lecinquevigne is made from five vineyards in the villages of Barolo, Castiglione Falletto and Monforte, and is aged in a combination of Slavonian and French oak. Tar, smoke, earthiness and black cherries emerge as this Barolo flows from the glass, showing unusually refined tannins for this bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2018.
