Dalla Valle Cab 2002

The opaque purple-colored 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon boasts exceptionally sweet fruit as well as a telltale perfume of melted licorice, black currant liqueur, and hints of blueberries and flowers. This wine is long, ripe, and full-bodied, with the vintagersquo;s more noticeable, astringent tannin. It will be at it apogee between 2006ndash;2021.

Herersquo;s a dense, rich and concentrated young Cabernet, with tiers of currant, black cherry, anise and cedar. Itrsquo;s tightly wound now and will need several years of cellaring to open and soften, but be patient mdash; all the elements are there Try around 2001. A blend: 91 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 9 percent Cabernet Franc.

There is a third selection called the Casa Dalla Valle. The 2002 is an outstanding wine, obviously meant for near-term drinking (in this case, over the next decade). The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon may not be the powerhouse of some vintages, but it is an outstanding effort. The wine reveals copious quantities of cassis fruit, medium to full body, ripe, pure flavors, sweet tannin, and a long, heady finish, yet it does not possess the weight of the greatest vintages. Anticipated maturity: nowndash;2015.

The deep ruby/purple-colored 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon offers up aromas of minerals, licorice, acacia flowers, blackberries, and cassis. Tannic, medium-bodied, and tightly-knit, with a long finish, potential buyers are forewarned that it will require considerable cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2009ndash;2016.

(Barrel tasting) Elegant, with fine balance; pretty oak, but not too dominant, allowing the spicy currant, vanilla, blackberry and cedar notes plenty of room. Firmly tannic.

Bright red-ruby. Cool aromas of blueberry, violet and bitter chocolate. Sweet but cool in the mouth, with brooding flavors of dark berries, dark chocolate and mint.
