Bright red. Highly perfumed bouquet of spicy red berries, incense, rose, blood orange and minerals. Lively, finely etched red berry flavors gain power with air, taking on bitter cherry and black raspberry character, along with nervy minerality and a rose pastille nuance. Incisive and gently sweet on the finish, with the fresh red fruit and mineral notes strongly repeating. A wine of compelling energy.

Slightly richer and more textured is the 2007 Pinot Noir Savage Juliet. Bluer fruits along with raspberry and spring flower characteristics are found in this classic, medium-bodied, delicate, graceful Pinot.

The 2006 Pinot Noir Savage Juliet's light ruby color is followed by notions of licorice, sweet cherry and raspberry fruit, and a touch of spring flowers. A sweet core of fruit is at the center of this lush, expansive, fresh Pinot. It possesses much more intensity than its light color suggests. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.

The winemakers at Dain hold to the philosophy that great wines can only come from great terrior, and that's why they've chosen to create the Juliet Pinot Noir from grapes sourced from Anderson Valley in Mendocino County. Further north than Napa or Sonoma, the climate is considerably cooler, and the breeze from the Pacific is an additional cooling factor - in other words, just the perfect climate for growing great, light-bodied, complex, Burgundian-style Pinot Noir. Aptly named, the Juliet is delicate and feminine, with subtle strawberry and cherry notes, highlighted by a hint of spice. Drinks deliciously now, but hang on for a year or two and watch this one bloom!

Vivid red. Bright aromas of black raspberry, cinnamon, mace and potpourri, with anise and mineral qualities adding complexity. Freshly, sweet red and dark berry flavors stain the palate, picking up an exotic candied rose quality with air. The finish leaves pure raspberry and tangy minerals behind. This sweet, open-knit wine is already delicious but possesses the depth and balance to reward at least a few more years of aging.
