D Cubed Zinfandel Napa Valley 2007
The 2007 Napa Valley Zinfandel has blackberry and cherry fruit with hits of nutmeg black pepper and cigar box. This medium bodied zinfandel has wonderful balance of acid, tannins and alcohol and flavors of berries, spice and Herbs de Provence. This Zinfandel is lovely now, but with a little more age it will really shine.

D-cubed Cellars started in 1994 with the Howell Mountain Zinfandel made grapes grown at the Black Sears Vineyard, and now I am we have the wines from our 13th vintage! 2006 was a great year for Napa Valley wines. They have wonderful forward fruit and some structure to keep them balanced and have age ability.
Fairly volatile nose. Initial mouth sensation is sweet. Lot of blackberry fruit. Some raisin. The good news is that the "sweet" sensation seems to be coming from fruit and not alcohol--it doesn't seem to be a particularly "hot" wine. OK wine to accompany a very casual meal, but not a Zin to seek out. US$23.99 at Wine Club about a year ago.

Admittedly a lighter and less intense offering than the previous wine, this one is nicely defined with its blackberry first nose being followed by notes of oak and a whiff of coffee beans. Medium-full to full in body, supple and almost sleek on the palate in an unusual but attractive way, especially for Zinfandel, this one will drink sooner and looks to accompany refined dishes like pork loin roasts brushed with honey and curry.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

The ripest of the D-Cubed trio and also somewhat less complete in fruit while sporting a bit of a tangy, piquant edge, this wine is of mixed minds but does not ever give up its ability to be a fine partner to tomato-based pastas, eggplant parmesan and savory dishes that like a bit of zestiness in the accompanying wine.
