Quite ripe on the nose with effusive, jammy and slightly pruney aromas of black currant and plum over vanilla oak with a menthol top note. Round, smooth and a bit hollow in the mouth with a nice base of soft tannins and good acidity supporting decidedly ripe chocolate, prune, and dried herb framed black currant fruit. The finish is a bit on the short side, showing some sweetness and cocoa notes and overall this lacks some nuance though it is rich and fairly powerful. 87pts

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2008 J. Lohr Cuvée PAU is dark burgundy in color and delivers immediate notes of plum and dark chocolate, with intense flavors of rich black fruit, bright acidity and dense tannins that glide over the palate. — Steve Peck, Red Winemaker
