Cypress Vineyards Chardonnay 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The windswept Cypress tree, the unmistakable signature plant of Californias coastal terrain, owes its gnarled appearance to the maritime airs persistent movement either inland or seaward. The oceans influence on the Central Coast winegrowing region is significant, keeping coastal and inland valleys refreshingly cool, while preserving the grapes natural acidity and flavor. For Cypress Vineyards Chardonnay, the daily cooling air from the Pacific moves directly from Monterey Bay and down the Monterey appellations of the Salinas Valley, creating richly flavored Chardonnay fruit with grapefruit and other citrus flavors paired with peach and tropical flavors. Harvesting and pressing in the vineyard at night ensures the preservation of these bright fruit flavors.TECHNICAL DATAVintage:2007Varietal Composition:99% Chardonnay, 1% White RieslingOrigin:100% Monterey Arroyo SecoTotal Acidity:0.67 g/100mlpH:3.63Alcohol:13.90% alc by vol.Residual Sugar:0.43 g/100mlWINEMAKERS COMMENTSThe 2007 Cypress Vineyards Chardonnay is a youthful, pale yellow in color with zesty citrus, orange blossom, and lime custard aromas. Growing the muscadine cultivars -- Carlos, Noble, Magnolia, Doreen and Triumph -- Cypress Bend Vineyards is taking the sweet taste of the muscadine grape to new levels in their eleven muscadine table wines and one after dinner wine. Cypress Bend's wide variety of wine also includes a Chardonnay and a Syrah. The quality of a Muscadine wine is directly dependent on the quality on the stock. Cypress Bend Vineyards selected from among 300 cultivars, settling finally on the five which would yield the right combinations of productivity and flavor. Carlos is a North Carolina native, vigorous and highly productive, identifiable by its clusters of bronze-colored fruit. Contrast these with the deep red grapes of Noble, another prolific producer. Doreen produces a bright green grape with a distinctive, slightly elongated shape. Magnolia is another vigorous vine yielding large quantities of bronze-colored berries. And finally, Triumph is a Georgia native with a slight reddish blush on its skin which has adapted quite well to North Carolina. Read less
