Founded in 1972, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines crafts an array of acclaimed wines from estate vineyards in Monterey County, Paso Robles and Napa Valley. From this world-class palette of fruit, J. Lohr produces three tiers of award-winning wines – J. Lohr Estates, J. Lohr Vineyard Series and J. Lohr Cuvée Series. Selecting Monterey County’s Arroyo Seco appellation for his original vineyard, Jerry planted his first 280 acres of grapes beginning in 1972. Ideally suited for cool-climate winegrowing, these vineyards have become an acclaimed source for outstanding Chardonnay, Riesling, Valdiguié and Pinot Noir. At the heart of J. Lohr’s renowned red wine program are its 2,000 acres of estate vineyards in Paso Robles. Featuring warm, sunny days, cool nights and diverse soils, these vineyards have proven ideal for cultivating a flavorful array of grapes including voluptuous and complex Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc along with Syrah and Zinfandel. Love it, love it, love it. OMG. Perfection. I am drinking it now, can you tell? It is the wine I reach for when I just really want some great wine, no messing around. Deep cherry, vanilla and oak.

This is a very nice, straight forward California Cabernet. Expressive and fruity with enough complexity to keep you interested. Best one I've found in this price range and one of my favorites.

I enjoy this wine but my relatives love it, especially women, its lighter than I like but its very pleasing wine. I like to bring one to family get togethers. My Aunt eyes light up when I bring it, I think its her favorite now and she tends to buy less expensive wines so its a real treat.

Big and bold Cabernet that is accompanied by soft tannins and a young, oak background. This wine may settle out and big more character in a year or two but it was ready to drink now. Tastes of black berries and currants.

Spicy nose of charred wood. Cab franc backward style. Nice, but nothing remarkable. - Tasted at Marché Bacchus 10/24/09

This wine was a prototypical California cabernet with big, round currant and berry fruit predominating. Some oak character shows as well. Medium tannins and body.

J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is intensely-colored with youthful and bright hues. An abundance of dark cherry, black currant and berry fruit greets the nose, enhanced by spicy cedar, vanilla and toasty notes. On the palate, the fruit follows through with full weight and a lingering intensity and balance from the tannins. This wine is ready to be enjoyed now, or cellared for 5 years.

Dark, rich and dramatically structured, with ultra-refined black and red currant, cherry, violet, cedar and smoke flavors that are grounded by a firm minerality. It s a Bordeaux blend based on Cabernet Franc.

Opaque core with a purple rim. The nose showcases aromas of cedar, baking spice, dark black fruit and crème de cassis. Reminiscent of a young Bordeaux from a ripe vintage, the black and blue fruit push forward on the palate with notes of licorice an... Geoffrey Binder. A Proprietary Blend wine from California in USA. 2006 Lohr Winery, J Cuvee St. E 750ml

If you’ve never heard of Valdiguié, that’s not surprising. For years, California wineries called it “Napa Gamay” or “Gamay Beaujolais” on their labels. But DNA fingerprinting has confirmed that it isn’t Gamay Noir, the grape used in France’s Beaujolais region. Rather, it’s a grape that’s now just a minor variety in Languedoc and Provence. J. Lohr’s version shows, however, that Valdiguié can be made into an exuberantly fruity, easy-to-drink red. The grapes came from Lohr’s vineyard in the Arroyo Seco AVA (although the label says Monterey). The wine spent no time in oak, and 15 percent of the blend went through carbonic maceration, so the wine bears more than a passing resemblance to Beaujolais. It’s bright and fruity, with slightly candied cherry and blackberry flavors. A touch of residual sugar softens the finish. Like a lot of Beaujolais, this wine would benefit from being slightly chilled, and it would make a good aperitif or a companion for lighter fare. With the modest price of $8.50, it’s the perfect summer quaffing wine, especially if you know someone who refuses to drink anything that’s not red.

True to J Lohr's style, this wine has tons of oak and enough fruit to balance it nicely. Big and delicious, this wine needs to match with red meat to really shine.

Tasting Notes:

The inspiration for J. Lohr Cuvée POM comes from the Grand Cru wines of Pomerol in the Right Bank of Bordeaux. These legendary wines are composed primarily of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with sparse additions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Winemaking is given the freedom to emulate these great wines without the restrictions of varietal percentages, instead keenly focusing on the texture and complexity of the blend that nature delivers with each vintage.
