With a firm belief in the richness of their land, the extraordinary potential of the black Grenache (which counts for more than half the grapes planted) and the climate of the Roussillon region, Veronique and Pierre Boudau have done their utmost to develop their production. Step by step, vintage after vintage, vat after vat they discovered, explored, created and succeeded, with quality, authenticity and fruit as their motto. As the years have gone by, without certitude but with a wealth of conviction and passion, they have bought to the fore the fantastic potential of this fifty-year old. Within the space of a few years, their range has grown and developed. From the fresh vin de pays to the sweet white wine, not forgetting the exceedingly expressive and elegant Côtes du Roussillon Villages. It is impossible not to appreciate all the estate’s wines, which reflect the owners’ passion for wine. Our vineyards are tended with meticulous care – rigorous pruning, as few treatments and fertilisers as possible, systematic tillage and no weedkillers – all methods that allow the vines to grow naturally, provide them with a balanced environment in which to grow healthily and harmoniously, and form the foundations for producing rich, balanced and highly complex wines. People are also of great importance in our work. Claude Figueras, our vineyard manager, heads a team of three permanent employees backed up by a number of seasonal workers. Only tilling and applications of treatments are carried out by machine. Regular tilling stimulates microbial activity by aeration and kills weeds in competition with the vines. The frequency of such work reduces evaporation from the ground by destroying the extensive capillary networks that exist in dry soils. The roots dig deep to find a good, steady source of water and nutrients during periods of very hot weather. Read less
