Cuvee Gouverneur Lirac Domaine Corne-Loup 2008

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought two bottles of this wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/125929 for £15. Lirac is an appellation created in 1947,although wine production here goes back to before the Romans, for red, rose and white wines from four communes around the village of Lirac on the west bank of the Rhone opposite Chateauneuf-du-Pape on the east.My bottles come from a family concern and the Cuvee Gouverneur Lirac is their top of the range flagship red wine.It consists of 50% grenache,30% mourverde, and 20% syrah and was aged in oak barrels.I started the first bottle last night with my supper of bacon pasta bake. There is some cherry and bramble style fruit with a suggestion of licorice and some soft tannins. This is a wine with a beautifully reserved and structured feel about it..
