A dark, brawny style, with roasted apple wood and dark espresso framing the currant paste, blackberry pandacirc;te de fruit, melted black licorice and bittersweet cocoa notes. Thereandrsquo;s lots of muscle on the finish, but also lovely flickers of violet and pastis for nuance. Needs time to unwind fully. Best from 2015 through 2030.
Glass-staining ruby. An explosively perfumed bouquet evokes dark berry preserves, incense, licorice and candied flowers. Stains the palate with sweet, pliant blackberry and cassis flavors. Closes on a sappy note, with resonating spiciness and lingering dark berry qualities. Note the name change from andldquo;Reserve Sixtineandrdquo; to andldquo;Chateau Sixtineandrdquo; that will take place as of the 2010 vintage.
In need of 4andndash;5 years of cellaring, the infantile 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Sixtine is a behemoth. Made from a blend similar to the 2009andrsquo;s, the 2010 exhibits an opaque purple color in addition to a beautiful nose of melted licorice, blackberries, cassis, smoky barbecue embers, underbrush and soil overtones. Rich and full-bodied with a multilayered mouthfeel, this impressive, pure, well-built Chateauneuf will require patience. Anticipated maturity: 2020andndash;2035.
Bright purple. Powerful aromas of black and blue fruits, cola and allspice. Deeply pitched blackberry and blueberry flavors are impressively concentrated but are carrying no excess fat. Finishes sweet and intense, with the blackberry and spice not... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2010 Cuvee du Vatican Chateauneuf du Pape 750ml
Very fleshy and succulent, with dark fig and linzer torte flavors that show anise and blackberry hints. Ample toasted spice and singed alder notes fill in on the finish, and this has a lovely silky feel despite its weight. Best from 2014 through 2026.

A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2010 Cuvee du Vatican Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Sixtine 750ml
The 2010 Chateau Sixtine Chateauneuf du Pape performed exquisitely and, again, was one of the top wines of the vintage. With better integration of the new oak than I have previously seen from Jean-Marc Diffonty, this wineandrsquo;s opaque ruby/purple color possesses lots of licorice, asphalt, graphite, blackberry and kirsch notes as well as hints of lavender, forest floor and garrigue. This opulent, full-bodied effort is approachable, but it will not hit its full stride for another 2andndash;4 years. It should drink well for 15andndash;20 years thereafter.
