Cuvee du Vatican Cdr 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

A velvety-smooth, fine-grained Châteauneuf that always possesses good backbone for cellaring, but is always ingratiating in its youth. It acquires this cushion of succu- lence over the course of a year in neutral oak before bottling.

From the bottle, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape has lived up to its pre-bottle form. Deep red. Redcurrant, raspberry and floral aromas are complicated by a whiff of licorice. Shows very good depth but theres an attractive sweetness and good energy to its spicy, bright red fruit flavors. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and sl... Stephen Tanzers IWC. The 2009 Cuvée du Vatican Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a much more normal blend (when compared to the '08) and is a mix of 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah and the rest an assortment of varieties. Tasted out of barrel, the wine display a relatively modern profile (... Pinot Report. A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2009 Cuvee du Vatican Chateauneuf du Pape 750ml

The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape (70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre, Cinsault and other grapes) was given the same upbringing as the 2008. Its dark ruby/plum color is followed by sweet aromas of raspberries, black cherries, forest floor and Provencal herbs. Attractive and soft with light to moderate tannin as well as medium to full body, it should drink nicely for 10-12 years.
