Cuvaison 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes Cuvaisons Carneros Chardonnay comes from our 400-acre estate in the southern part of Napa Valley. This cool climate vineyard allows us nearly perfect conditions year after year to produce world class Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot. Controlling all farming aspects within our own vineyard gives Cuvaison an advantage in producing the best quality fruit therefore minimizing over manipulation at the winery. Winemaker Steven Rogstad sums it up best, My style and philosophy are based on expressing the unique character of our estate grapes and doing as little as possible to them. When one has such wonderful fruit to work with, that should be ones emphasis.

It's an excellent pairing for a rich fish such as a lightly grilled King Salmon, not too buttery or oaky. Crisp citrus without being too fruity. Initial bouquet that is evocative of the hot stones on the hillsides above San Tropez and a length of finish that is light and tantalizing and elegant.

Here’s a good, rich and super-drinkable Chardonnay. It shows oak-inspired flavors of pineapples, peaches and green apples that taste like they were baked into a pie. Finishes clean and zesty in acidity.

Here you'll find fine forward fruit, with the green apple-citrus character typical of Carneros, with a clean and crisp finish. What a stylish introduction to dinner, or perhaps as an accompaniment to grilled fish (the lighter ones, not the richer types).

The 1996 Chardonnay Napa/Carneros is an attractive, buttery, toasty, smoky wine with medium body, good force and power, yet little finesse or elegance. Its solid Chardonnay flavors are presented in a medium-bodied format. Drink it over the next year.

Smooth, ripe and polished, with spicy pear flavors, hints of vanilla and nutmeg and a clean, fresh finish. Drink now.
