Curtis Heritage Rose 2012

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This smells a bit gamy with rather pronounced and lightly candied black fruit tones on the nose. Broad and a bit hot on entry, this gains some focus in the mouth but remains a bit loose if not lacking in acidity. The fruit is again slightly candied with lots of blackberry tones on the palate that lead to a bright, sweet berry and high acid finish that’s a bit weird. Something is off on the finish, which also shows a bit of alcohol but leaves the mouth a bit sticky and a bit burnt. 86pts

Why Rhônes? Because they are an alternative to the beaten path. Because they are delicious as well as different. And because they are so perfectly suited to the Santa Ynez Valley, the sun-drenched, fog-kissed place that we call home. Here, we put down roots as one of California’s first wineries dedicated exclusively to Rhône-style wines. Since then, nothing has changed. We still live for Rhônes. Our specialties are Syrah, Grenache, Viognier and Roussanne, which we complement with a trio of lively blends. Under the guidance of Winemaker Chuck “Calypso” Carlson, we craft our wines in a fruit-forward style, with an emphasis on capturing the pure natural flavors of the vineyard and the vintage. We invite you to uncork our wine or visit our tasting room to discover the Rhône difference for yourself. Read less
