Cupcake Vineyards Pinot Noir 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

"The warm days and cool nights of California’s Santa Barbara County provide optimal growing conditions to produce complex, sun-drenched fruit for our Pinot Noir. This wine offers a heady aroma of cherries that carries through to the palate, then opens up to a touch of red currants and a hint of spice. We harvest our Pinot Noir grapes at their peak and cold soak them for a couple of days. After yeast inoculation, the juice undergoes a cool fermentation to preserve the bright cherry fruit. American and French oak barrels are used to age the wine for about nine months." -Winery

Our winery is located in Monterey County, California where warm days give way to cool nights as the fog rolls in off of the Pacific Ocean. It’s this cooling influence that slows the growing process, increasing the time the grapes “hang” on the vine and thereby allow our grapes to mature a little slower than in hotter regions. Slow growth and cool weather leads to a more balanced level of acids and sugars, thereby adding to the complexity and structure of the wines of the Central Coast. This region is poised to become one of the newest and most exciting viticultural opportunities in the coming years. This slow pace continues in our cellar where we take the time to craft wines that are complex, rewarding and hand made. Gentle pressing, cool fermentation, malolactic fermentation, and long barrel aging in small barriques allow us to elevate our wines so that they are rich, creamy and downright delicious. Our winemaker, Adam Richardson has since added a few additional wines from other cool climate regions to augment our portfolio and match up with additional cupcake profiles, like our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Yakima Valley Riesling, and Mendoza Malbec. Go ahead, live deliciously. Read less

Very affordable for the quality this pinot noir is bright red with a light and balanced body. It opens with a complex mix of strawberries and raspberries that creates a pleasing aroma. The taste includes a flavor profile of mild rasberry, plum and dark chocolate with a finish that is dry and very light on tannins.

Red cherries, a touch of oak, pleasant lingering finish with a hint of dark fruit, very good. Another winner courtesy of the talented Adam Richardson.

Cupcake Pinot Noir has the aroma of cherries that carries through the palate with a touch of red currants and a hint of spice. It's reminiscent of a cherry cupcake with currant coulis.
