User Reviews for Cupcake Vineyards Petite Sirah Central Coast
Add your reviewReally nice and smooth, dark chocolate, blueberry, raspberry, a touch of sweetness and a great value for $10-11. The smoothness on the finish reminds me of Estancia Merlot, a velvety finish. It is very rich with dark fruit & dark chocolate and made in a similar style to Cupcake's outstanding Malbec. A second bottle was just a good as the first and a real crowd pleaser. As a label with most of their wines around $11, Cupcake is hard to beat no matter what variety you're drinking, either white, red, or sparkling.
I like most Cupcake Wines but, I found this one particularly good. We had with steaks and later chocolate. It's a very good wine, well balanced and full of flavor.
** EDIT 7/28/2011: The last few bottles of this wine I bought were thin, oversweet and a bit too acidic. I thought the first bottle was a fluke, but after the second bottle, bought several weeks later from a different store I can say I won't buy this again.
True to it's name it creates a velvety texture on the palate and leaves one wanting more
Very fruity and thin. Quite drinkable but not very complex. A good beginner red wine that should please most of a crowd.

Cupcake Shiraz has a dark and inky garnet color with a nose of ripe plums and blackberry jam. It follows with a full palate of creamy fruit, mocha and just a touch of black pepper that lingers. It is reminiscent of a chocolate mocha and blackberry cupcake.
Our Cupcake Barossa Valley Shiraz has a dark and inky garnet color with a nose of plums and blackberry jam. Black fruit mix with creamy chocolate on the palate and just a touch of black pepper that lingers after a long dry finish. Its reminiscent of a chocolate mocha and blackberry cupcake.
We harvested these tiny berries in the early morning and trucked them over to the crush pad. The Central Coast is well known for warm days and cool nights, which allow the fruit to fully develop. This wine starts with aromas of pomegranate, boysenberry and blueberries that evolve into flavors of spice accentuated by rich dark chocolate. With a creamy, rich body, this wine finishes in a long and soft manner. Serve it with a juicy pork tenderloin with a Petite Sirah reduction. - Winery
Winemaker's Notes:
We harvested these tiny berries in the early morning and trucked them over to the crush pad. A dense, full-bodied red wine, crafted from the coolest Central Coast areas, this Petite Sirah is anything but petite in flavor. Bursting with dark cherry, blackberry and bittersweet espresso notes, it has a creamy mouthfeel derived by aging a portion of the wine in small oak barrels.
Tasting Notes:
This wine is reminiscent of a dark chocolate cupcake with a vanilla berry coulis. Pairs deliciously with a triple berry mousse or a mushroom risotto with black truffles.
