User Reviews for Cupcake Vineyards Central Coast Petit Sirah
Add your reviewVery nice showing from a vineyard I've never encountered in battle before. Everything is in balance, from spectrum of dark fruits, to just the right amount of complimentary acidity. Nice bargain and I would consider picking up another bottle in their lineup.
Rich and certainly creamy, this red blend of Zinfandel, Merlot, Cab Sauv and Petite Sirah is a bold wine, with plenty of length. Deep, tight tannins coat your tongue as flavours of chocolate, blackerries, and coffee penetrate. Available at the LCBO for roughly 15 bucks, would pair very well with venison, beef, or dark chocolate.
Delightfully deep hue for a simple table red. As dark as a James M. Cain novel, this wine might just be equally as schizophrenic. Is it a Zin? A Merlot? Or do I detect a discreet Syrah? Sip the mystery for under 10 bucks and decide for yourself.
Talk about smooth...this is a very smooth, dry wine with a mouthful of chocolate and berry! Gotta love it!
Inexpensive, yet very good. An excellent before dinner wine to serve to guests or to have at night to wind down

Red Velvet is a blend of Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah; each variety lending structure, aroma, depth of flavor and a long creamy finish to this wine. The grapes were harvested from some of the finest vineyards of California's viticultural areas; each picked for their ability to engender these grapes with distinct characteristics that will add to this blend. Each varietal was fermented separately and later blended and put through a unique oak regime that imparts a certain creaminess. - Winery
Head of Winemaking for Cupcake Vineyards, native Australian Adam Richardson has been making wine around the world for more than a dozen years.
Cupcake Shiraz has a dark and inky garnet color with a nose of ripe plums and blackberry jam. It follows with a full palate of creamy fruit, mocha and just a touch of black pepper that lingers. It is reminiscent of a chocolate mocha and blackberry cupcake.
Winemaker's Notes:
After harvesting the grapes, the berries were gently pressed and drained to limit the skin contact. This allowed the wine to maximize the potential for the fruit and minimize the longer and harder tannins. The majority of this wine was composed of “free run” juice and contributed to the soft and rich quality of the finished wine. A very special yeast was used to enhance the fruit and structure in the wine. Most of the wine then went into barrels made of French and American oak for twelve months, while the other portion was kept in tank. Then the wine was blended at bottling.
Tasting Notes:
We harvested these tiny berries in the early morning and transported the grapes over to the crush pad. A dense, full-bodied red wine, crafted from the coolest Central Coast areas, this Petite Sirah is anything but petite in flavor. Bursting with dark cherry, blackberry and bittersweet espresso notes, it has a creamy mouthfeel derived by aging a portion of the wine in small oak barrels. This wine is reminiscent of a dark chocolate cupcake with a vanilla berry coulis.
