Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Our Chardonnay was crafted to emphasize the Central Coast’s crisp and vibrant Chardonnay character. We use a malolactic fermentation and then leave the wine sur lie to create a wine that is both rich, full, creamy, toasty, and soft. Premium Fermentation Techniques Barrel Fermentation — By using this process of fermentation it creates a more controlled environment for the wine where the flavors become more harmonized. It also enhances the golden Chardonnay colors, adds a creamy texture, and provides subtle toasty oak and spice flavors to the finished wine. Malolactic Fermentation — This process, where the malic acid is altered by natural means into lactic acid, reduces the wine’s acidity and imparts a buttery, rich flavor to the wine. Aging Technique — Aged for 9 months in premium American oak barrels adding richness and complexity to the wine.

Our winery is located in Monterey County, California where warm days give way to cool nights as the fog rolls in off of the Pacific Ocean. It’s this cooling influence that slows the growing process, increasing the time the grapes “hang” on the vine and thereby allow our grapes to mature a little slower than in hotter regions. Slow growth and cool weather leads to a more balanced level of acids and sugars, thereby adding to the complexity and structure of the wines of the Central Coast. This region is poised to become one of the newest and most exciting viticultural opportunities in the coming years. This slow pace continues in our cellar where we take the time to craft wines that are complex, rewarding and hand made. Gentle pressing, cool fermentation, malolactic fermentation, and long barrel aging in small barriques allow us to elevate our wines so that they are rich, creamy and downright delicious. Our winemaker, Adam Richardson has since added a few additional wines from other cool climate regions to augment our portfolio and match up with additional cupcake profiles, like our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Yakima Valley Riesling, and Mendoza Malbec. Go ahead, live deliciously. Read less

Absolutely terrible wine. This tastes like some type of cleaning agent. The worst wine I have ever had. Overtones of bleach, shoe polish, and a deep flavor of bitter lemon. Enjoy.

Our vineyard works hard to bring you the zestiest, most refreshing Sauvignon Blanc from the cool Marlborough Valley. Here the grapes mature slowly, giving them complexity and a vibrant zing, reminiscent of a lemon chiffon cupcake. The aromas are integrated, delighting the senses with flavors of Meyer lemons, Key limes and a finish that awakens the appetite. Serve chilled with oysters on the half shell or with a rich, creamy lobster risotto. - Winery ** SOLD OUT **

Marlborough, New ZealandDon't judge Cupcake Vineyards by the fanciful name alone because this winery is producing some top values in everyday wines across multiple varietals and regions of the world! Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc is a beautiful expression of this grape from the highly regarded Marlborough appellation of New Zealand. This white wine gem is made from 100% Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. At the northeastern tip of the South Island of New Zealand, Marlborough enjoys a temperate climate with high sunshine hours, moderate day temperatures and cool nights. The region is ideally suited to producing aromatic wines showing strong intensity of grape variety. The long cool season allows the grapes to mature slowly, giving them complexity and a vibrant zing reminiscent of a lemon chiffon cupcake! Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc is pale yellow-green in color. It is crisp and light with aromas of grapefruit, gooseberry and citrus and boasts rich flavors of Meyer lemons and Key limes. It is crisp and clean on a long finish that awakens the appetite.Enjoy Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc over the next 3-4 years with salmon, oysters, grilled vegetables, halibut, crab, chicken, Asian cuisine, and sushi.

AppellationCentral Coast, CaliforniaWinemaker's Tasting NotesCupcake vineyard works hard to craft the richest, smoothest and elegantly-textured wines. This full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon shows soft tannins, with primary fruit flavors of blackberry, dark cherry and cassis. These levels of dark fruits melt with the tastes of cocoa and toasty oak and ends with a long, smooth and silky finish. - WineryFood Pairing RecommendationsServe with venison glazed with a Cabernet Sauvignon sauce or baked brie drizzled with honey.Winemaking NotesThe Cabernet Sauvignon was cool fermented with frequent pump-overs in the early stages of fermentation to extract the soft tannins and color during the aqueous phase. Then the grape skins were pressed before the fermentation reached dryness to maintain the wine's lush tannin structure. The must was kept cool during fermentation to help create a slower fermentation and allowed the wine to retain more aromatic properties as well as complexity of flavor and body. The wine was then aged in premium American oak barrels - adding richness and complexity.
