Cupcake Pinot Grigio 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

The grapes are picked by hand, de-stemmed and crushed before undergoing a very cool fermentation in steel tanks. The wine undergoes an extended maceration on its lees. A portion of this wine (Approximately 5%) is made using the traditional passito method, whereby the grapes are harvested and left to dry on straw mats for several weeks. Once dehydrated they are gently pressed and fermented. This wine is then blended back into the overall wine, giving this Pinot Grigio a level of depth and complexity.

Our winery is located in Monterey County, California where warm days give way to cool nights as the fog rolls in off of the Pacific Ocean. It’s this cooling influence that slows the growing process, increasing the time the grapes “hang” on the vine and thereby allow our grapes to mature a little slower than in hotter regions. Slow growth and cool weather leads to a more balanced level of acids and sugars, thereby adding to the complexity and structure of the wines of the Central Coast. This region is poised to become one of the newest and most exciting viticultural opportunities in the coming years. This slow pace continues in our cellar where we take the time to craft wines that are complex, rewarding and hand made. Gentle pressing, cool fermentation, malolactic fermentation, and long barrel aging in small barriques allow us to elevate our wines so that they are rich, creamy and downright delicious. Our winemaker, Adam Richardson has since added a few additional wines from other cool climate regions to augment our portfolio and match up with additional cupcake profiles, like our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Yakima Valley Riesling, and Mendoza Malbec. Go ahead, live deliciously. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

The first sip impresses with a nice blend of sweetness and citrus. But it is thin and pale, and a stemmy bitterness becomes more noticeable as one goes along. Similar to, but not as good as the other 2 Cupcake whites I've tried. Around $9 a bottle.

Cupcake Pinot Grigio is full with a nose that shows hints of pineapple, pears and sweet lemons. The body is full and gives way to a creamy mid-palate, integrating tropical fruits with the vibrant zing of citrus fruits.

Tasting Notes:

Our Pinot Grigio is full with a nose that shows hints of pineapple, pears and sweet lemons. The body is full and gives way to a creamy mid-palate, integrating tropical fruits with the vibrant zing of citrus fruits. It is reminiscent of a pineapple upside down cupcake. Enjoy with bay scallop sin a cream sauce, linguine alfredo or simply as an aperitif.
