From half bottle - Classic aromatics of tobacco, earth and sweet tea great the nose and gains a dried strawberry edge with smoky top notes over time. On the palate this is soft and elegant with acidity peeking out a bit though the fresh strawberry fruits, while shallow, are certainly there on the mid-palate. Over-all a touch low intensity though with good persistence on the finish which keep the strawberry vibe alive. I would love to see more intensity and complexity but from a half bottle a very fine showing. 87pts

The 2004 Vina Real Gran Reserva is developing beautifully. The oak is nicely integrated and the aromatics are just beginning to display tertiary notes of dried fruits and spices. This lengthy, concentrated effort admirably displays the plush, rich style of the great 2004 vintage and should easily see its 20th birthday in fine form. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
