Dense and a bit smoky on the nose. There’s a nice sense of aromatic restraint to his, showing great integration of the wood and more depth and richness to the fruit than many other examples of 2001 Rioja. On the palate this is supremely elegant and filled with raspberry and cherry skin fruit all framed by suggestions of toasty coconut, leather, and some peppery, floral nuance. It’s a wonderfully balanced wine already, totally classic and one that should age for a very long time indeed. the finish is long, nuanced and has a lovely sweet tart thing going before the wood pops on the finale. A must have wine. 94pts

Lovely warm fruit on the nose with a slightly jammy tone and backing elements of ass, ash, and polished leather. This gains a nice violet top note and has a deep, powerful bouquet. In the mouth this is elegant yet a touch shallow with nice fruit across the palate and on to the shortish finish. It's vibrant but fading a bit. 90pts

Herby and a bit of dry compost on the nose over clay and iron flecked rich red berries with a touch of coffee bean laid on top. Lacks the intensity of the 73. In the mouth this is a different story though as it remains rich with sweet, round fruit. The bright acids and polished tannins keep it relatively mouthfilling though it is elegant. With air this suffers, fading progressively through the night but for that first hour or so it's a beauty. 92pts

Amazing wine - started with a glass and ended up finishing the whole bottle in a few hours. Gorgeous fruit and vanilla oak.

ST93, SILKY, BROAD AND SWEET, WITH THE VIBRANT RED FRUIT FLAVORS BUILDING WITH AIR. THERE'S A LOAD OF FLAVOR HERE BUT THE PALATE IMPRESSION IS ELEGANT AND GRACEFUL. CONCENTRATED, SUAVE AND LONG,...ABSOLUTELY LOVELY RIGHT NOW. THIS SHOULD HOLD FOR SOME TIME TO COME. IWC #128. SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2006.

The 2007 Imperial Gran Reserva is again a great wine in the making. Red fruit and plenty of spices (nutmeg) the palate shows great acidity and abundant tannins that need resolving with time in bottle. Great tension and nerve. I think it will take some time to be released which is good as it will require some patience. Drink 2016-2021. 93+ - Luis Gutierrez Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Weingut: CVNERegion: RiojaRebsorte: 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 5% MazueloInhalt: 0.75 lAlkoholgehalt: 13,25 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 5,25 g/lRestsüße: trockenEmpfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16°C Rotwein > Spanien > Rioja

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2001 Imperial Gran Reserva has a more complex, better defined nose than the 2000, with black cherries, spice and Seville orange marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins cloaked in sweet dark cherry, bitter orange and strawberry fruit. It is lighter on its feet than the 2000, with less persistence, yet it shows greater harmony and tension. This is a fabulous Gran Reserva with enormous weight and dimension...94" WA 08/12

Uniquely pale red-orange in color, this aromatic wine has scents of mainly forest fruits with hints of earth, oak, and cherry stones. The taste is just as complex with smoky, spicy, woody, and tobacco flavors—very earthy. A creamy, rounded texture with a long-lasting finish.
