Cullen’s 28 hectares of vineyards are located in the Margaret River, an area renowned for producing wines of character and depth. The grapes for this wine come from the subregion of Wilyabrup. Cullen Wines became the first carbon neutral winery and vineyard in Australia. The estate vineyard was certified Organic ‘A’ grade in 2003 and Biodynamic ‘A’ grade in 2004 by the Biological Farmers Association of Australia. The grapes were grown biodynamically and picked when at perfect physiological ripeness, at Baumés ranging from 12.1 - 13.7°. The varieties were vinified separately and aged for 19 months in French oak of which 70% was new. The wine itself is deep, inky red in colour, with a youthful purple meniscus. On the nose it is young and concentrated, with dark berry fruit perfumes and spicy oak notes. The palate is intense and powerful, with black cherry fruit beautifully blended with fine grained tannins.
