Cueva de las Manos Cabernet Reserva 2005

External Review by Prestige Wine & Spirits:

We loved the wonderful aromas from this Cabernet andmdash; dark berry, currant, cedar, eucalyptus and a hint of leather. The tannins are a bit strong, so let it breathe for a while and pair with a juicy steak.

Named after a prehistoric cave that features a very early form of art, where hands are stenciled on the walls and painted with various colors. Starting out stoically and muscular with dusty tannins, this Cab rides tall in the saddle with the bravado of a caballero. The fruit is tight and restrained, literally not showing much at all andmdash; that is, until itandrsquo;s had the time to open up and display its inner beauty like the blossoming of a rose petal. As the caterpillar emerges from the cocoon and the butterfly takes wing, the wine transforms into a potpourri of velvety fruit layered with complex mineral and spice elements. Well, at least thatandrsquo;s what I got out of it.

Dark and lush, with black cherry, fig, plum sauce, smoke, dark chocolate, and black pepper. A note of wild flowers and savory herbs marks the flashy finish. This is dense, but low-tannin and eminently drinkable - a superb value out of Argentina.
