Cruz di Piedra Umbral Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

External Review by Wine Gems @ Perriello's:

Mendoza, ArgentinaUmbral Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful red wine gem from Argentina made by Bodega Cruz de Piedra. The wine's full name, Umbral de los Tiempos, means "maximum point of plenitude from patience and care," reflecting the values most important to the Alonso Family when they planted the first varietally pure vineyards in Argentina in 1973. The vines are now 38 years old, planted in rich, sandy soil at an elevation of 3000 feet. The presence of gravel provides very good drainage for flood irrigation of pure water from melting snow on the Andes Mountains. Umbral Cabernet Sauvignon is elegant and complex. Deep red-violet in color with full body, it has a velvety nose with aromas of black currant, blackberry, spice and black pepper. It is intense and seductive on the palate with flavors of ripe black fruits and nicely integrated oak. 80% of the wine was aged for 12 months in 2nd-year French and American oak barrels. It is beautifully balanced to drink now and over the next 6-8 years. The finish is long and smooth.Enjoy Umbral Cabernet Sauvignon with grilled flank steak, BBQ ribs, empanadas and sharp cheeses.
