Crozes Ermitage les Varonnieres Chapoutier 2010
"One of the finest wines of the appellation is the 2010 Crozes-Hermitage Les Varonnieres. Oodles of tapenade, black truffle, asphalt, blackberry and subtle barbecue smoke are all present in this opaque purple wine, which has great fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel and a huge finish. Drink it over the next 20-30 years." 94-96pts WA 12/11 "Bright purple. Exotic aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry and Moroccan spices, with a smoky overtone. Fat, round and full, with superripe dark fruit and spicecake flavors that stain the palate. Rich and broad but lively, finishing with excellent thrust and persistent spiciness...91-93" IWC 3/12
The name CHAPOUTIER is present in the Rhône Valley since 1808. In 1879, the distant ancestor Polydor CHAPOUTIER was the first to begin to buy vines, thus moving from the status of wine-grower of an estate to that of a viticulturist, a wine producer and a businessman. The pioneering spirit was already present in the family.
