Crossbarn Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2012

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Sweet toasty oak spice frames fresh and bright dried herb laced smoky black cherry fruit on the nose with gentle toasted coriander accents. A bit dense in the mouth, rich with wild raspberry fruit and almost chewy with soft, supple tannins. This is a fine example of a ripe wine that shows some restraint. The flavors build in the mouth gaining a hint of blackcurrant on the mid-palate with fine mineral and pomegranate seed accents leading to a moderately long, smooth and polished finish. It’s a relatively larger scaled Pinot but it doesn’t lack freshness of elegance, right through the fine, almost sandy finish. Shows a whisper of heat and a little spiciness on the finish. 91pts

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

The 2010 Pinot Noir Crossbarn is a pretty, accessible Pinot with lovely varietal fruit, flowers, red berries and spices. It shows terrific delineation, focus and energy in its class. This gorgeous mid-weight Pinot will continue to drink well for the next 2andndash;3 years. Anticipated maturity: 2012andndash;2015.

Tight and firm, with a pretty mix of blueberry, blackberry, plum and mineral. Gains depth, holds its focus and fans out on the finish. Drink now through 2018.

Bright ruby. Spice-accented red berries and candied rose on the nose. Tangy and precise, offering fresh raspberry and cherry flavors and a kick of tangy minerality. The finish is nervy, focused and long, leaving spiced red fruit and floral notes behind. I tasted the 2009 version next to this wine and it came off as richer and fleshier but less precise.
