Crios Torrontes 2011
Offers luxurious lychee aromas and mouth-filling citrus flavors with an acidic but not overpowering bite – a fine representation of Argentina’s indigenous white. (AV 87, http://argovino.com/?p=176)
Although fairly new to the Torrontes varietal, I have tasted 20+ of them, and I must say that this is my favorite. If you aren't familiar, Torrontes are like a mix between Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc. This has a floral nose, with hints of honey-dew, citrus and a little spice. It has flavors of peach, tangerine and honey that are accompanied with mouth-watering acidity (much like a Sauv Blanc, with Viognier flavors). The finish is refreshing and tangy, should go great fatty fish.
Excellent for the price. Full-bodied, not oaky (no bite). Pair with fish, poultry or pork.

The 2007 Torrontes is about as good as this varietal gets. Super fragrant, smelling of a spring flower garden, honey, and exotic spices, from the nose one expects the wine to be sweet. On the palate, however, it is dry with a creamy texture, intense flavors, excellent acidity, and a lengthy finish. It is an ideal alternative for rich courses normally calling for Chardonnay. Drink it over the next 12ndash;18 months.
Pale color. Pungent aromas of citrus peel, ginger, mint and floral oils. Juicy, spicy and firm, with a lively lightness and good subtle persistence. Finishes vibrant and firm-edged, almost austere but not at all bitter. An excellent example of this variety, and a perfect aperitif. This tastes even drier than its five grams of r.s. would suggest.
This brilliant portfolio begins with the medium straw-colored 2008 Torrontes. It offers up an alluring perfume of spring flowers, peach, apricot, and a hint of citrus. On the palate the wine is dry, smooth textured, layered, and succulent while retaining a sense of elegance. This nicely balanced wine features a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Drink it over the next 1ndash;2 years.
Susana Balbo consistently delivers refined, clean torronteacute;s like this 2007, a white filled with ripe melon and honey scents. The deep flavors surround sweet peach with spice in a creamy texture. The finish is refreshing. A match for crabmeat and pork soup dumplings.
Torrontes thrives in the high altitudes of Cafayate, where some vineyards rise over 6,000 feet. This Crios is one of the best examples, packed with scents of caramelized lime and honey. The ripe peach flavor creates a silky, almost creamy texture balanced by a crisp, firm acidity and a dry finish.
Good pale yellow. Sexy, almost gewurztraminer-like aromas of licorice, wild herbs, flowers and mint are at once bright and exotic. Juicy, saline and dry but with noteworthy texture and intensity to the ripe flavors of lavender, verbena and botanical herbs. Nothing austere about this serious, soil-driven torrontes. Finishes tactile and persistent, with a lightly saline quality.
Enticing aromas of orange blossom, peach, licorice, mint and white flowers. Juicy, spicy and firm, with lovely inner-mouth floral perfume to the peach and lichee flavors. A slight phenolic quality gives the wine grip without bitterness. Comes across as dry not austere, thanks to a few grams of residual sugar. Should make a lovely aperitif.
