Crios de Susana Balbo Malbec 2016

External Review by Wine Gems @ Perriello's:

Mendoza, ArgentinaSusana Balbo Crios Malbec is a beautiful red wine gem from Argentina and one of the top values in the world of wines. Susana Balbo, Argentina's leading and most innovative winemaker, was inspired to change the perception of Malbec from a forgotten grape to Argentina's iconic varietal. Against the odds, she created a wine that elevates Malbec to world-class quality. The fruit is sourced from the top areas of the Uco Valley: Vista Flores, La Consulta, Alta Mira and Tupungato. All the vineyards are ungrafted and farmed organically at an average altitude of 4000 feet above sea level. Susana Balbo Crios Malbec is brilliant violet-red in color, made of 100% Malbec. The nose is vibrant with signature notes of black cherries, oak spice and violets. The palate is lush with hints of spice, showing ripe varietal red plums and black cherries. Starting with the 2014 vintage, oak usage has been reduced by 75% with a combination of 2-, 3- and 4-year-old oak barrels. The wine has a silky structure with a long, rich finish.Enjoy Susana Balbo Crios Malbec over the next 6-8 years with grilled tuna steaks, lamb, hamburgers, beef empanadas and sharp cheeses.

Good full medium ruby. Crushed blackberry, licorice and violet on the lively nose. Quite ripe and sweet in the mouth, showing impressive volume and breadth for the price range. Finishes with serious ripe tannins and noteworthy persistence. Susanna Balbo's
