Dominio del Plata is a family-owned and run project of Susana Balbo (Enologist) and Pedro Marchevsky (Viticulturist). The core philosophies that they share, and that figure prominently in the production of their wines, are the following: Precision Viticulture This is a grape-growing philosophy that demands attention to detail, however small. The planting of the vineyards, varietal selections, vineyard management systems, water management, canopy conduction, sanitary precautions and harvesting decision are all managed personally by Pedro and Susana in order to achieve the highest quality standards. Sustainable Agriculture The entire project is specially designed and implemented in a way that doesn’t harm the natural resources, preserves the environment, functions according to social requirements, and at the same time maintains productivity in order to remain economically competitive. Superior Winemaking Skills Our winemaking skills and professional knowledge have been developed over more than two decades through intensive and prolonged education and research. From this accumulated knowledge, we have designed and constructed a winery that employs state-of-the-art enological technology for the processing of grapes and therefore the production of high-quality wine. Love and Passion Knowledge and experience are not the only keys to successful winemaking. Every step of top-quality wine production demands a love and a passion for the winemaking process in order to obtain a successful result. The dedication and diligence of our entire family working in the vineyard, in the winery and for the marketing of the wines gives the company its unique character. The constant search for perfection and the appreciation for fine wine, as well as our relationships with the people that contribute to the success of the winery, is physically embodied in the beauty of the Dominio del Plata Winery. There is an attractive and obvious heavy fruit (cherry the most pronounced) and liquorice front to this wine. The finish is a little rough (some tannins) but should be fine with meats. Well worth the price.

Intense, dark ruby color with enticing aromas of ripe, black plums and black currants. The richly textured plum and currant flavors are joined by accents of dark chocolate and some vanilla-scented oak. The ripe, vibrant tannins give the wine beautiful structure and an amazingly long finish. This is a big wine for just a little money. Drink it now or over the next few years to enjoy the fruit flavors at their best. It will pair well with traditional Cabernet-friendly foods like grilled or roasted meats. - WineryVarietal notes: 95% Cabernet, 5% MalbecVineyard: The vineyards for this cab are all estate owned vineyards and from two areas of Lujan de Cuyo - Agrelo and Ugarteche. The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon contains 5% Malbec in its blend. It was aged for 9 months in seasoned French and American oak before bottling without fining or filtration. Notions of Asian spices, incense, violets, black currant, and blackberry set the stage for a slightly lean, savory, flavorful Cabernet meant for drinking over the next 3-4 years. Offers a solid core of dark, ripe black currant and blackberry notes framed by light tannins and a dash of mocha on the finish. Drink now. 15,000 cases imported. -NW

It is purple-colored with a classy nose of cigar box, cassis, black currant, and violets. Medium-to full bodied, it has excellent depth, savory flavors, ripe tannin for balance, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish.

Medium ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, licorice and dried herbs accented by a peppery element. Moderately sweet and nicely creamy in the mouth, with a saline complexity to the chewy plum and currant flavors. Very suave cabernet sauvignon for the price range, finishing with fine-grained tannins that reach the front teeth and lingering notes of currant, plum, flowers, spices and licorice. (A second sample, which I rated 88 points, was a bit more medicinal and showed a stronger herbal element that gave the finish a slight dryness.)

Big and woody to start, with heavily toasted blackberry and herbal aromas. The palate is thick, dense and tannic, but it doesnandrsquo;t punish. Tastes of cassis, blackberry and herbs before transitioning to dry oak and roasted berry on the finish.
